Ceramic Vase.

I recently chanced going ( as there were only a few others  ) to a pottery class at my local craft shop where we made ceramic vases. We were each given a lump of brown clay that we had to thump and need till all the air bubbles were out of it and then roll out to a uniform thickness.  There were several design on show and I choose to make a shape with a wavy top edge and to over lap where it met around the base.

Once we had out shapes cut out we then pressed fresh flowers and leaves into the clay to leave impressions. I chose to work with lavender and instead of using leaves used a stylus to cut grass stalks around the base. The dragon fly was a stamp pressed into the clay. Next came the fun part of painting our pieces.  I had a small piece of the clay over (as I hadn't made feet for my vase) and made a small plaque instead. They then went off to be fired and glazed and I picked mine back up this afternoon.
Not sure where the plaque is going but the vase is on my kitchen window ledge and filled with fresh  lavender from the garden.

I  managed to arrange/wring out  a Dr's appointment from the receptionist who tried her best to fob me off with all manner of excuses  as to why I couldn't have one. It is not a face to face just a telephone  call for the 9th August after I finally  waved my flip phone at her to show I couldn't use my smart phone to use the link to make it myself.  Watch this space!

WOW this looks brilliant love the lavender and little Dragonfly, love the little plaque you made too-I have watched pottery throwdown so I know it's not as easy as you made it sound-well done you! These new rules at the Drs are laughable you can't walk into the Dr and ask the receptionist ooh sorry care navigator for an app -you have to go home and ring her to get one??? They have also changed the way you ask for repeat prescriptions which is also laughable you used to ring give your name/DOB and say what you needed-now you have to ring an automated line which has you laughing at the automated voice trying to say the name of the tablets-but it took twice as long for the care navigator to tell us what to do than just say what tablets do you want???Good luck with your telephone call.

Your vase is beautiful Mrs A, always good to try a new skill. I'm impressed you made something you can actually use. Years ago I did pottery class at night school with some work colleagues- we had a lot of fun- the high spot was one lady's pot went flying off the wheel and splatted onto the wall behind her, we laughed so much I'm surprised we didn't get thrown out! None of us ever made anything worth keeping...
Glad you got your appointment even if it IS just a phone call.

Oh, such sweet and lovely vase! Well done using the leftover of clay to make a plaque, it's so lovely too! Playing with clay isn't so easy, a remaining tiny bubble of air could make the vase break during the firing! But we can see that you worked so well! Love the lavender impression and the cute dragonfly, as well the delicate colours you choose. Years ago I made some pocket emptiers using doughs of clay and big leaves of fig, kiwi and medlar. They leave a beautiful impression, also because you can use a rolling pin and then cut all around the edge to have the leaf shape. Then I put the clay leaves in soup plates to give the curved shape until they have been well dry. Have the clay fired here cost a lot of money because the prices of electricity have increased dramatically, but the clay itself isn't too expensive because nearby there is a town famous for it and they sell the bricks at good prices.
Glad you have pointed your feet and got at least one phone call with a doctor... Hope it will be a satisfying call! You will tell us about.
Hugs

Love your beautiful vase filled with lavender. The plaque is also gorgeous, maybe you can hang it in your garden house?
Glad you managed to have the Dr's appointment earlier. It almost sounds like a soap.....

How lovely to make something a little different and now in use as well which is lovely.

We've exchanged views on the HNS system, nothing improves. I'm now into a new realm of arranging hospital transport as not allowed to drive after my next spinal treatment, plus it's an hour and a half away. My, it's a whole new ball game.

A lovely vase and plaque - nice to branch out into a different craft now and then. It looks just right filled with lavender. Good luck with your telephone appointment with the doctor - I do wonder how people who are hard of hearing manage to communicate with their doctors though and I'm sure a doctor could tell more about how a person is faring by seeing them in person rather than at the end of a telephone line 🙄

A beautiful plaque and vase Valery Anne. Glad you managed to get an appointment even if is a phone one. As for using the phone, I'm sure only half of what is on there works.

Your vase is lovely with the wavy top edge. The lavender is perfect in in. The plaque is terrific and glad you used up the clay to make it. It's a shame you have to insist when you talk to people and I'm proud of you for waving your phone to show her! I encountered that type last year when dealing with the roof. This young man said "just scan the estimate and email it to me". I said "I am 79 and I don't know how to do that". In a soft voice he said "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you were that old". Keep up the good work.

I'm sure your pottery class was fun for you, and just look at the beautiful things you made! I love love love the fresh lavender in the vase, and the plaque is very pretty too! As for the way patients are now treated, it's a new world out there concerning healthcare. What used to be so simple is now incredibly complicated - especially for someone like me who doesn't own a cellphone!
