Layered Butterfly

Another inspiration card to show you today for the butterfly challenge.
#79 Butterflies + L is for Lots  of Layers and/or the colour Cream.
I have used cream cardstock for the base card and layered up with two die cut frames using Crafts-Too rectangle dies in caramel and then coral to pick out the colours of the butterfly. The image is from Hundory's 'Little Book of Butterflies' which I have adhered to coffee cardstock and then attached to the cream card with 3D pads. The Butterfly has been fussy cut from another card with the same image and then adhered with a 3D pad to the front of the card. The wings have been bent to give a feeling of movement.  Bronze pearls in the corners are from my stash.

The challenge is running for another 2 weeks and closes on 13th June.  Hope you will have time to join in the fun.

Mistleto and Wine

Time again for the girls in the Christmas Card Club to show our next makes. The Theme was chosen by Rita who asked for Mistletoe and wine. Well I knew I didn't have any suitable used christmas card fronts in my stash  so a bit of head scratching went on until eventually I hatched a plan.

I found this digi by Justinklined  that I had purchased and never used in my digi downloads so that was the mistletoe element sorted. Then I remembered I had this stamp by Clear Impressions which had been free in a Creative Stamping magazine.  The sentiment is a Penny Black from their Wonder Collection.

Here is the finished card.

I used my promarkers to colour the mistletoe and the bottle of wine stamp.  The stitched frames are from my my most used Crafts-Too die set. Green and wine coloured cardstock along with white card to make the base card from my stash.
Thankyou Rita for making me really think outside of the box on this one. Hope you like.

Tag Book Card and Box.

This is the first project I made with Martine during the Heartfelt Creations workshop on the recent Oyster Retreat that I attended.
Tag book card with matching box using Heartfelt Creations Flowering Dogwood stamp and matching die set. This is the finished  front of the book which we decorated with vellum flowers that we stamped and die cut from white vellum. After heat setting with silver embossing powder we coloured the reverse side using a green ink pad. Flowers were moulded using a ball tool to create the curved petals.  The book was made using several layers of card adhered together.

The back of the book which I chose to decorate with a heartfelt border die in silver and overshadowing in white.

The inside was made using more heartfelt border dies and decorated with a few left over flowers.

We then made up a box and decorated the front with more of the vellum flowers and  a fancy die cut background.

Photo showing the finished book and box.  I enjoyed making this as it took a lot of cutting and sticking which I like doing and Martine was fun to work with. We made another project in the afternoon which I will show on another post.

Courtyard Butterflies

It's the 2nd week already for the Butterfly challenge.

#79 Butterflies + L is for Lots  of Layers and/or the colour Cream.

Here is some more  inspiration for you.

Base card is made from green pearlised card stock and layered  up with cream cardstock then a green design paper (no name from my stash). The next two layers are a gold pearlised card embossed using Sizzix ' Courtyard' Texture Fades 659449. Image is by Hunkydory from their  'Little book of Butterflies'.
It is not very clear but the background on the image matches in quite well with the embossing folder pattern. Cream lace, gold sticker flowers and the sentiment sticker from my stash. Five layers this time and a further two if you count the sentiment which is cream card layered up with green card and attached to the front with 3D pads.

I used the oddments left over to decorate the inside of the card so that's  also 5 layers if you count the lace strip in too.
The challenge runs until 13th June.

Flower Box

This is the last project that I made on the craft retreat with Honey Doo crafts. A vellum flower using their products to create the centre piece. Flower stamp was stamped out several times in versamark ink embossed with white/white EP onto white vellum and then heat set. Each flower was fussy cut out and then coloured from the back using Memento Dew drops ink pads in two shades of pink. Each petal was sculptured and then applied to a flat disc of vellum to build up the flower shape. A few leaves were created the same way and tucked in behind the arrangement.

The inside surround for the box frame was stamped using Memento  Dew drop ink pads and we could choose which Honey Doo stamps we used to make our designs up with.  I chose a leaf scroll and a butterfly. We also stamped a square larger than the aperture to adhere the flower disc to and then put inside the frame.

A photo showing the finished frame which is 10"x 10" and looks really pretty IRL. I had to take the photo out in the garden to get all of it in. I will show what I made on the Heartfelt Creations retreat day later in the week.

Vellum Lillies

I'm Showing you here the second card that I made with Honey Doo Crafts when I went on the 3 day craft retreat run by Oyster crafts. It is a large 8" x 8" base  and uses vellum as an overlay.  It does look really spectacular IRL. We were all pleased with the results we achieved. I will show you the card process  backwards as we started by stamping the inside of the card using Honey Doo 'Lovely Lily' and ' Birthday Sentiments.

The front of the card was stamped using Versafine Onyx black ink covering with clear embossing powder and heat setting. The lillies were painted using Honey Doo mica powders mixed with water. I haven't managed to capture  the sheen  on the petals in the photo.

Finally we adhered a sheet of vellum paper over the top and using the same lily stamp lining up and stamping  over in exactly the same place using Versa mark ink. We used White Opal embossing powder over the top and heat set.

Here is the finished  card.

Appearances can be deceiving!

Time again for a new challenge on the butterfly blog.

#79 Butterflies + L is for Lots f Layers and/or the colour Cream.

Here is my inspiration for you.

A simply layered up card but is it what it seems!

A base card of chocolate brown pearlised card stock layered up with burnt orange and cream cardstock to match the butterflies of the design card. I'm not sure where it came from now.  Six layers in all some of which are raised on 3d pads for more dimension.
The beauty of the card though is in the hidden mechanism inside the card  as this is a 'Twisted Pop Up' card.  I saw this done on Sue's (Zouave Cards) blog and immediately thought how well it would work for this challenge of loads of layers.. There are lots of variations and tutorials on You Tube and I did use a combination of ideas from more than one of them.

This is the card as it begins to open up.

 A little bit more.
Keep going and finally fully opened.

Closed down showing the folded mechanism from the side .It really is magic.

Hope I have inspired you to play along. This challenge is running for 4 weeks so you have plenty of time to put your thinking caps on and join in.

Christmas Carols.

Time once again for the girls in the Christmas Card Club to show our latest makes. The theme was set by Christine and she has asked for cards based on a 'Christmas Carol'.
A quick rootle around in my used christmas card box and I found this card front  with a Crown on it and a bit of music score and text included in the design.  A light bulb moment went off and I made this acetate fronted card. I found the Magi sticker in my stash along with a few more gold stars so adhered these to the acetate. Added a few gold sticker edges and called my card done.
Card is based on the Carol 'We Three Kings'

Card closed up and below shows the acetate with the  3 Kings sticker  attached.

Whilst sorting through my sticker stash I found another one with the Shepherds and sheep on and also one of an angel. Second light bulb moment. (I will be lighting up the Blackpool Tower at this rate).
I made another acetate fronted card.
Card is based on the Carol While Shepherds watch'd their flocks by Night.
I went on line and found the words which I uploaded in word and printed off. This was attached to green card stock for the base and then the Angel sticker and stars added. The acetate front was simply decorated with some more gold edging strips and the Shepherd sticker.

Card closed up and below shows the acetate with the  shepherds sticker  attached.

A Good Wine.

I have just recently been away on a 3 Day Craft Retreat organised by Oyster Crafts. One of the days workshops was by Honey Doo Crafts, The classes were run by Amanda and her mum Kay and we made 3 items during the course of the day.  I'm showing you here one of the cards that we made.
A Pop Up Step card.

The stamp and matching die cut is by Honey Doo called 'A bottle of Vine'. The die cuts were already done for us but we needed to stamp them with Versafine Onyx black ink and then with clear embossing powder. This gave a lovely deep shine . We used  Honey Doo Mica powders  mixed with water to paint the fruit and leaves which dry almost immediately. I chose the sentiment from a selection we were given to use.

This gave us time to do the cutting for the step card arrangement.  You can see  a side view of the card below.

It's The Doc's birthday today so this is the card I gave him. No doubt a real bottle will be consumed
later today.

More Decoupage.

It is the second week of the current butterfly challenge already.
#78 Butterflies + D is for Decoupage and/or the colour Gold.
I have made another card for further inspiration.

The base card is made using Morrocan Gold cardstock. I have used a die cut from Crafts - Too  'Oval Frame' to create the trellis design from light gold pearlescent cardstock. The butterflies are a decoupage sheet from Tbz-kaart.nl which I fussy cut and then layered up with 3d foam pads.  The gold sentiment, flat pearls and gold edging were from my stash.  Photo below is the card laying down flat to show the decoupaged layers.

50th Birthday

I received a request for a commission  back in February to make a special card for my  Hairdresser's brother who will be 50yrs old this weekend.
I  was given a list of requirements amongst which were:
supports Liverpool and his favourite team number is 7 which is also his birthdate so could it be on the card . I knew I had a tutorial saved for making little shirts as embellishments  and that I had a strip of ribbon with footballers on it in my stash so an idea for the card was born.
I made a demo card up with my idea and it got the thumbs up so I finished the real Mccoy in good time. The envelope to put it in took way longer than I had anticipated and ended up being an evening and practically an all nighter (the day before I was due to hand the card over) to come up with a design I was happy with which had included  the bright idea of incorporating  a magnetic closure  on the flap and morphing  the envelope into a slim box  shape!!

The little shirt is a tutorial which can be found here.  I checked what the Liverpool strip for 2016/2017 is and made it using the same colours. The ribbon was just long enough to wrap around the design paper which is a digi by Print Fun Factory 'Balls No 4'.

I made a small pocket for inside the card and added a Red Card.

This is where I incorporated the No 7.

Finally the box card.

I have now received a commission for an 80th Birthday card and the recipient used to be a carpenter!! Not needed till next year though but I have ideas already and just ordered some more magnetic closures.

Decoupage

It is time for another new challenge over on the Butterfly blog.
#78 Butterflies + D is for Decoupage and/or the colour Gold.

Here is my inspiration for you.
I have made an easel card.

The easel card is made from a cream card blank with the base of the card layered up with gold card stock.  The two die cut frames were made using  Spellbinders  'Marvelous Squares'. I was watching a video by Lindsay The Frugal Crafter on making chalk backgrounds and as I had all the necessary in my stash decided to have a try out on this card.  The peg stamps I used are by Heyda from their Butterfly set and the gold coloured chalk from my box of Dovercraft Decorative Chalks. I'm pleased with the resulting panels. The decoupage  butterfly is from a sheet  by Le Suh 'Anna's Art'. They are not precut so I needed to fussy cut each component out separately. The sheet is very thin so I backed onto plain white 150gsm card stock before cutting. I used gold stickles on the top layer.

I finished the card off with a gold sticker sentiment , a gold sticker flower and a gold pearl.

Side view showing all the layers.
Hope to see you all in the Butterfly Garden Later.
