Checkered Backgrounds

Oh well we managed to keep the Internet up and running for 6 weeks this time but it fell over yesterday. Just rebooted so we will see how long it lasts for. The moral of the story being type faster!!
Here is some more inspiration for you. I only had a little of the cyan coloured cardstock left and as I wanted to make two cards using it I needed to come up with designs that were economical.

1st card uses Gold shimmer cardstock to cover front of blank card base. I have used an SU punch for the sentiment label and then gold sticker edging and a sentiment from my stash. Paper flowers were also from my stash along with the bronze pearl. Butterfly is Memorybox  Isabella/Pippi die cut. The cyan card stock is cut into 1/4" strips and then a simple lattice work adhered straight to the card for the checkered element.

My 2nd card uses  Champagne Pearlised card stock to make the card base.  I used Crafts-Too Lattice Frame PCD 33 die to cut the aperture window and then infilled with 1/4" strips of the same base card and Pink Rose shimmer card stock to make the checkered design.  The butterfly swirl is by Tonic Butterfly Blooms 293720 which I then recut just the butterflies using the pink shimmer and then the cyan card layering up with the cyan in the middle to cast a shadow. Cyan Gems on top from my stash. Finally I die cut the sentiment using a  Britannia die word die and layered just slightly  off one another again to cast the shadow. The cyan colour shows up best on the picture above but I also took the one  below with the flash on to show the lovely shimmer of the cardstock.

Hope you will come along and play and that I have given you some ideas.

Very pretty cards Mrs A, you've nailed that "simple lattice " paper weaving that I find quite difficult xxx

They are beautiful cards Mrs. A. What a good idea to paper weave for a checkered background. I'd never have thought of that. I've not done it for a long time and it's a great way of using up pretty strips too. Barbxx

Oh Mrs A. You are one clever Vegemite, I love your cards, must think about making one, except am snowed with others but do like the look of weaving and it would be a change from Christmas cards :)

Mm we'll see how time goes, must confess it does get eaten up by visitors or visiting and that's important too.
Hope you're keeping well, I'm really glad to be back to my normal. As my sister pointed out today it's not like others normal ;)
Thanks for popping over too, off to peek below.

Both very elegant. That is very clever to layer the butterflies and get both colours. I'll stash that idea away with all the others. X

I haven't woven paper strips for quite a while, but I couldn't do it any better than you've done here! I LOVE the look of both cards, and am hard-pressed to choose a favorite! Beautiful work on both (and I'm well aware of how much work it is to weave paper like this) !!
