Mouse Marathon!

Something slightly different from me today prompted by two cards I saw on other blogs. Marilyn had used a 'High Hopes Stamp' and in my comment to her I said I had a couple of their stamps and never used . Having a rootle around I found 3 in fact and this got me somewhat into craft mode and I decided to ink up 'Sweet Lili Mouse ' L-121 and have a play.  Well this started up a bit of a Marathon as I kept inking up, painting/colouring and discarding my efforts. The first 2 uncharacteristically of me actually ended not only tossed into the bin but torn into shreds too .

Here is effort  no.3 that very nearly ended up in the same place but got pushed to one side while  I inked up a further two!
Image number 4 was a disaster from the word go and in desperation I changed tactics of trying to paint a brown mouse  and got out my Copic Markers and coloured up a white one instead. Still not happy, but by this time the little mouse above had dried out and having been left for a couple of hours whilst tea called  I decided  didn't look so bad after all!! This is where Tina came into play as she had used the June Cheerful Sketches Challenge to make her card.  Now I don't follow sketches normally but I rather liked the look of this one and the little mouse was looking for a home so  I made the following card.

Design papers  are all by Hunkdory 'Boutique Chic' free with Paper Crafter Jun 2016 mag. I distressed the edges.
Doily flowers and square pearls from my stash. I used brown pearlised card stock to die cut the Sizzix scallop rectangle frame which I put through a Sizzix EF  Flowers 656978. There is a piece of acetate sandwiched between the frame and the image but as luck would have it I managed to get a photo without the usual glare showing on it.  The mouse was stamped onto a scrap of white card (that was on my desk. I had given up trying to use watercolour paper by this stage) using distress ink vintage photo. I then scribbled some distress marker pens onto a clear stamp block and with a fine paint brush and loads of water mixed into the colours filled in the image.  Of course it buckled and pilled and looked a mess as had the previous 2 now in the bin.

Here is the sketch that I followed. I rather like the finished result! Mouse is not the colour I had in mind but heck she's a Field Mouse!!!!!!!!

Then instead of having just told you about the afore mentioned disasters I thought I would show you
them. I painstakingly fished  the pieces out of the bin and pieced/glued them back together again. Took me 2hrs!
So here they are Warts and All.
Effort No 1.
On watercolour card using distress markers.
I coloured the ribbon was pleased with that then did the arm.
Too dark and I went and smudged the eye. Darnation!

Effort No 2.
Brown colour perfect, bow not so good and then I
mucked the nose up. Grr.

I will show you Meeces 4 and  5 next week

Does this give a new meaning to paper piecing I wonder. Lol.
I'm off to lie down in  a very dark room now
but first I would like to enter my card into the following challenges:

I think that your card has come out so well with the sketch! So sweet!
And I love very much your Effort No 1...! It has fab shades! I wouldn't have thrown it! Perhaps you could have colour again the eyes with a black marker and a white gel pen for arrange the details. I hate putting works in the trash bin :D

Super end result after all the angst Mrs A! Love the wee mouse and such a pretty layout. Ha, I did laugh at you piecing the shredded ones together - they didn't ought to have been thrown in the first place!

Sorry about the duck mess - Parsnip just skidded in some and almost ended up in the duck pond with the little perishers!

Hugs

Di xx

Super card, Mrs A. I did crack up at your Marathon tale... one that I am very familiar with too! The pain and effort was worth it - truly lovely card, my friend.
So glad you joined Tuesday Throwdown challenge.

And they say crafting is relaxing! Thanks for sharing your efforts, the bow in the first one was stunning, think I would have been chopping that out and layering up the image. Love the card that you came up with though and the mouse looks fab. Cara x

First, the final card is wonderful! Love the mouse image, and the browns & shades of color in that, look very nice contrasting against the more delicate background papers. It's a good look I think. And the coloring looks fine to my eyes! I did enjoy seeing the warts though, so thanks for sharing 'em. (again, while I know you're a perfectionist, what you tore up, didn't look as bad as YOU think it did). We all learn from someone else's boo-boos. (what I learn is that I'm not the only one who messes up! You very seldom do!!!) Hugs & TFS

Your paper piecing save made for one cute card! Mamma said there'd be days like this when you have all great intentions but things just go awry! I hope your rest in the dark room revived you :) This card looks really cute, and I especially like how you followed the sketch with the doily!

Well done you on persevering....I do this often....I get stuck with an idea and must follow it through at all costs. I look back and think I should have changed tack much earlier on but no I 'have' to see it through. Maybe it's all us crafters? I think the finished final card is really beautiful and although you don't normally follow sketches I think this one is perfect and so glad you got there in the end, it really was worth it x Such a pretty card x

My dear your inner critic is far too harsh on you. Your card turned out beautiful. I love that you fished your beginning mice out of the bin and pieced them back together again. They have their own sweet character. Embracing Creative Bliss...

What a gorgeous image Mrs A, lovely water colouring too. I haven't tried water colour very much but it is something I would love to be able to do well. Your card is adorable.

Good for you hanging in there! Not only did your card come out lovely, you kept at it and pieced the other two back together. I think watercolor is suppose to pretty much look like what was in the bin. It's a soft look to it and you did pretty good. I learned some not so good words (not for publication) when learning to watercolor so I'm proud you hung in there.
