Heres looking at You!

Here is my latest picture finished at last. I painted this one for my Mum.She has recently gone into a care home at the age of 92yrs and as she is originally from Australia thought this might cheer her up.
As with all my other painting I have taken snapshots of it as I go along so that I can see the different stages and how the picture builds up.
So here is the first stage of the line drawing and the koala bear given a base coat of plain grey paint on his fur.

Eyes, nose and the beginings of his fur emerging.
A bit of his fur. The coat is quite thick and dense so needs to be built up in stages. Started a bit of the background colour too where his fur will cover over.
A bit more fur and the background completed and darkened down  to make him stand out more.

Leaves and tree filled in and the edges of his fur blended against the background. Nearly done now.

Just a little bit more tweaking of his fur, nostrils added, eyes brightened and
Heres looking at You!

Entering into the following:
Homemade Harbour: Mondays.

aw Mrs A. Kfer (k for Koala) is sooo cute I love him - such lifelike look on his face and in his fur.. oh, and may I just say his gumleaves are not the right colour (or on my laptop) though.. they are blue green. Maybe they dont come though correctly here. Thanks for popping over and my boys are mostly being good - mm, they took a fancy to my brads today and think they are hiding one I want!! Shaz in Oz.x

Amazing you really are very talented and I can see where Fluff gets all her crafting skills from. A lovely present for your mum to enjoy and a lovely reminder of home. x

This is awesome. Thanks for showing the different steps you went through to render his fur. I'll have to print out, try with my copics next time I attempt my koala. You are such a talented painter, and what a marvelous gift for your Mom. She is going to love it, and it will make her new home much more pleasant for her. Thanks for sharing this!!! Hugs to you & your Mom too. You are blessed to still have her with you.

Lovely, Mrs A! Super kute and beautifully done. I have an abstract painting on the go at the moment but it's my first and I'm scared of it. I hope your mum loves seeing this little koala on her wall. If she is anything like my mum, her memories of her youth will be far better than her memories of more recent events. Thank you for leaving such lovely comments on my blog! Hugs, Lesley

Aw, he's lovely. I can see you mum loving him and proudly showing him off to all her visitors (mums still do that thing with their kids' work, even after they're grown up, don't they?)

Wow, I really enjoyed seeing how it was done, and how he emerged from the first to the last. Thank you for sharing your technique. Not that I think I could do it now, but it's nice to see how it progresses.
