You can't take it with you!

The Internet has been up and down all week with  the bad winds. Hopefully I can stay on long enough to be able to post this and get round everyones blogs. This item is rather appropriate at the moment as I'm stlill coughing (coffin) like mad and haven't been to bed in over a week as everytime I lay down I go into a coughing frenzy! Actually it has been quite comfy sitting up in an armchair especially as 'The Doc' has been covering me up like a parrot each night!
Anyway onto the post details. I entered a tag swap last month and didn't really think anything was amiss  when my return tag did not show up as I had received a plausable excuse for it being late. The swap owner then emailed me to say that my partner was a known flaker as she had flaked on her too  (and someone else) with a swap the month before. As I was missing a tag' Tee very kindly offered to send me a replacement (the tags are making up a set of 12 ,one for each month of 2012). The swap that Tee was missing was to alter a little coffin box and fill with goodies. I have now heard from Tee that she has received her coffin so here it is.
Now not having a coffin shaped box was not going to put me off so having been told the rough size of 6" x 3" I set to with cardboard ,glue, paper serviettes, material and black paint and got started. The original swap had been for halloween but as this was now long gone I  decided to put googly eyes on the inside of the lid just to keep an eye on things!

The inside was lined with black satin and I attached the lid(after much debating) with ribbon hinges and ties. The lid is decorated with handmade roses and buffed with a little Inka Gold(I love this stuff).I then stitched lace and ribbon around the outside edge.

The inside is filled with beads, shinny baubles, trinkets, stick pins , more roses and even  some butterflies, so who says "You can't take it with you" !!!!

Everything has come from my stash so I'm popping over to

Ahh, Internet. Nuff said. I know you we're a bit nervous about this, but you've pulled it off perfectly. I really like the flowers on top. The just seem to lighten the whole theme up. X

I'm so sorry to learn that you have been poorly, Mrs. A (although I rather enjoyed the mental image of you being covered like a parrot at night)! Having coughed all through October and into November, I empathise with you and hope you feel better soon!
Is it okay, do you think, in polite conversation to say how much I like your coffin?!?! It seems a comment that might cause offence generally. But on this occasion, I really DO like your coffin. Beautifully lined and with the little gold touches and prettily hinged. When my time comes, I do hope the size on offer isn't 6 inches by 3 mind you!
Hugs, Lesley

Valerie, the friends you obtain from blogging & the craft swaps are precious, as you have proved!
I am so delighted with my little coffin you handmade from scratch for me!
It has a rustic look & feel to it, with an element of surprise(the googly eyes),pretty roses, and the ribbon hinges, with the tie closure were such a great idea! It is one of kind, and I love it! Thank You, Tee
P.S.I hope your cough stops soon, and you feel better.
I just got over the same thing. Hugs.

Oooh its great! I still feel like doing a spooky project even though Halloween has gone too (still need to use some new halloween stamps!). Sorry to hear your swappee bailed out on you - very annoying when that happens isnt it! Hope you are ok - not heard from you for a while!

Love this Mrs A - natch the flowers are stunning as always, plus the flutterbys and the coffin itself. Sorry but I laughed about you being covered up like a parrot at nights - bless, hope you feel better really soon.

Sorry to hear you have been poorly and heres hoping the cough goes soon. Love this box, very sophisticated way to do it to, love the touches of gold. It is a right pain when someone flakes out when you have put so much effort into something. Hugs, Amanda x

Really creative little piece and I love the idea behind it - 'you can't take it with you'! Great use of our theme to stitch the lace and ribbon into place.
Thanks for joining us at Anything But A Card this time.

Hello mrs A, I've been wondering how you all were. Sorry you're poorly at the moment, but it's good to know The Doc is looking after you (pieces of eight, pieces of eight - lol). It's the other way round here, John's had a stinker of a cough and cold although has insisted on going to wok still!

We do pick 'em for unreliable swap partners. Good that Tee sorted it out for u tho. You've come up trumps yet again with yr coffin box - you're so clever with designing things. It's fabulous!

Take care - & get better soon xxx

Hope both you and your internet are feeling much better. Your coffin made me smile. The flowers look lovely.
Remember you challenged me to do something with my old bag and said I could challenge you back. Well the other day my husband received a birthday card and inside it was another card. Which got me thinking could you make a Russian doll card?
Hope you have a lovely week.
