First Aid.

Gosh is it Wednesday again already! Are you ready for another Mrs A's Bloomers?
Okay it's fess up time .Grab a coffee and stay a while.
So last week you know that I got the job and this little escapade happened about 18months into the job.

It was decided by the powers that be that each department should have a First Aid Officer to deal with minor accidents so a volunteer was needed to step forward for the post. Now I wasn't particularly interested but  before I knew it my name was put up and seconded before I had time to draw breath!  We all had to be duly trained by the Red Cross and a training day was scheduled to be held at another of our buildings.

The day arrived and about 20 of us from various departments turned up for the three day course.(I did not go anywhere near the coffee machine just in case your wondering even though this was a different location). We started off by learning to do resuscitation  and before the boys (we were a mixed bunch) could get excited about it we were  told it would be on the standard plastic dummy and not on us girls. Well managed to get through that alright and we stopped for a break. Next up was learning how to put someone into the recovery position and we were paired up for this. I was  with J.C. from Engineering and he volunteered to go first. So he is lying on the floor and (cross my heart I barely touched him) I flipped him over as we had been shown and he let out the most awful howl of pain and clutched his knee.  The instructor came running over and examined his knee and said 'We need to call an ambulance I think you have dislocated your knee cap!!' In my defence he was a rugby player and this was an old recurring injury but he was off work for two weeks and I went down in history as the only person to ever put her partner in Hospital on a First Aid Course!!!!
Now I know you all want to know the answer so yes I did pass and  got my certificate but you know the funny thing ? No one was ever ill on my watch!

  10. Sooooo Funny, and the image goes perfect, maybe that's why you told the tale! Great card, great story.
Anyway if you are up on first aid then surely you can cure your back so you are fit and well for sports day.

  11. Hello there, you know you're going to think I'm soo rude - I'm not sure that I've ever been back to comment after you very kindly followed my blog! You have my very sincere apologies and I hope that I haven't mortally offended you!

My excuse is very poor, but I have been finding it hard to blog just lately - not been into it at all and had no motivation.

Hopefully I have now kicked myself up the derrier (you're friend could've done that with his dislocated knee!) and will be back on a regular basis.

Love the story, love the card - I'll be back!!

  12. No one DARED to be ill on your watch, Mrs. A! If you didn't injure them innocently, you'd have them in stitches over your wit!! Literally! Even your cards have me in stitches!

What's this about needles in real time? What's happening?

  22. What a terrific card, it's goes so well with your tale! I did my first First Aid course last Saturday and managed to bruise my mouth by being over-enthusiastic when giving CPR to the dummy!!!

At least you had a lesson in how ambulances and paramedics arrive!

    Have a great weekend!

  23. OMG...I am still laughing!!!
My youngest DD (little Miss C and Mr P's Mum) got on with her current employer because she has her Industrial First Aid ticket.
I am going to get this stamp from Bugaboo and use it for her card when she has to do her renewal course next year.
Eldest DD teaches nursing at university and so this stamp would get a lot of use in my household...teehee

Loved your story...I laughed so hard! I am so glad you started this Mrs A's bloomers section...a lot more fun than my gardening posts at the mo! teehee

  29. Oh I am glad to not have this nurse lady to deal with! She's very fierce looking, but entirely professional! Loved the coloring, of course, and your spotty background paper. Chuckled a lot over your story. I could never get the dummy to breathe, but I don't think I had any injuries to report. All we had to do, was learn to do mouth-to-mouth....TFS & giving me a smile to end the day! Hugs
